SOMERVILLE MID WEEK CHALLENGE
CONDITIONS OF PLAY - 2007
1 Authority and Control
(a) The competition shall be in the charge of and under the control of the
Bowls Gold Coast-Tweed Games Committee. Laws of the Sport of
Bowls (Crystal Mark Edition 2006) shall apply.
(b) The Games Committee shall have the power to enquire into and
adjudicate on any disputes or problems as may occur.
2 Sectional Structure
(a) The competition shall consist of of two (2) sections, namely Red
Section (10 sides) and White Section (9 sides & Bye).
(b) Each side shall consist of three (3) teams of four (4) players plus a non
playing manager.
3 Eligibility, Interchanging Player
(a) Players shalll be 60 Years or Over on or before the round they first play.
(b) A player must play four (4) matches in a side in a section to qualify for
that section to be eligible to play in major trophy final.
(c) There shall be no lateral movement of players after Round 4, where
two or more sides from the same Club are in the same section.
(d) A player is not permitted to interchange between sections in a round
scheduled on separate days of the week unless special permission is
obtained from the District Games Committee.
4 Fees
(a) Club nomination fee of $33.00 (incl GST) per side payable by 16th February
(b) Mat fees shall be $5.00 per player per round of which $4.00 shall go
to the host club and $1.00 to the pool for the prize money to go to the
best performed side of the day. Clubs to supply own scorecards.
5 Duration of Play
(a) All sectional and post sectional games shall be 21 ends.
(b) There shall be no dead ends. Should the jack go out of bounds it will
be replaced to a mark in the centre line so that the position of the jack
nearest to the mat line is 2 metres from the front ditch. Where the mark
is obstructed by live bowls it shall be placed as close as possible
forward of this mark on the centre line of rink without disturbing live
bowls. (Refer General Conditions of Play Rule 18)
(c) (i) If inclement weather or any other justifiable cause should prevent
the commencement of a round, the round will be re scheduled to
another suitable date at the same venue.
(ii) If a round is stopped and incomplete with less than 48 ends played
by all sides in the section at the venue, cards to be ruled off by the
umpire and the games so affected are to be completed at another
suitable date at the same venue.
(iii) Any or all rounds affected by (i) and (ii) shall be finalised no later
than 27th April 2007.
6 Scoring
(a) The side scoring the highest margin at the end of play, shall be
the winner.
(b) Two (2) match points shall be awarded for each Side win.
(c) In the event of a tied score, each Side shall be awarded one (1) match point.
(d) Match points shall be recorded together with shots for and against
and also the margin.
(e) Results sheets to show total shots scored by each side.
(f) Ladder Calculation
(I)The side scoring the greatest number of match points shall be
declared the winner.
(ii)In the event of two (2) or more Sides scoring an equal number of
match points, the Controlling Body will divide the total shots scored
against the side into the total of shots it has scored. The side with the
highest result will be declared the winner, if these proportions are
equal the best performed side in the game/games between these
sides shall be the winner.
7 Finals - Post Sectional
(a) Major trophy shall be decided by play off between the Red and White
Section leaders at the completion of all sectional play, at Mermaid Beach
Bowls Club.
Final Prize Money:
Winning Side in Final - Shield plus $200
Runner Up Side in Final $100
(b) Clubs who finished in Sections Red and White from 2nd to 5th Position
to compete at Mermaid Beach Bowls Club for minor prize as for
Sectional play.
2nd Red vs 2nd White 21 ends (Best Performed )
3rd Red vs 3rd White 21 ends ( Side )
4th Red vs 4th White 21 ends ( $120 )
5th Red vs 5th White 21 ends ( )
(c) Clubs who finished in Sections Red and White from 6th to 10th
Position to compete at Southport Bowls Club for minor
prize as for sectional play.
6th Red vs 6th White 21 ends (Best Performed )
7th Red vs 7th White 21 ends ( Side )
8th Red vs 8th White 21 ends ( $120 )
9th Red vs 9th White 21 ends ( )
10th Red vs 10th White (Comp) 21 ends ( )
(d) A player must play four (4) matches in a side in a section to qualify for
that section to be eligible to play in major trophy final.
8 Attire
The dress (attire) regulation set down by the DBA Council shall apply
i.e. approved Club Shirts or white shirts.
9 Miscellaneous
(a) The Games Controller at the Host Club shall assist the DBA Games
Committee representative.
(b) He shall appoint a non playing umpire or measurer for the days play.
(c) Host Club shall fax results to DBA immediately after completion of
each round - Fax 55342422.
